  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Has anyone posted this yet? I didn't see it in a search.

Amy Bloom has a memoir book entitled, "In Love" in which she talks about her husband who got alzheimers and declared on day three after the dignosis that he would seek assisted suicide. They ended up going to Zurich.

Thanks for sharing! I was looking into a clinic in Switzerland as well but I'm not quite ready to go through with it.

Wish I had the money! Also, I've had a chronic illness for 24 years, but it's not fatal. I could suffer for 20-30 more years. Not sure they would even take me if I could afford it.

I don't have the money quite yet (I've been saving up). Here's Dignitas's requirements in case you're curious:

  • a disease which will lead to death (terminal illness), and/or
  • an unendurable incapacitating disability, and/or
  • unbearable and uncontrollable pain.

I don't have as much pain as others with my illness. I'm not sure what "unendurable and incapacitating" require. Ive had a lifetime of being invisible because the scope of my suffering just wasn't understood so I'm kind of expecting that to remain the case.

To be honest, my childhood trauma with repeat PTSD is a thousand times worse than my illness and my illness makes any kind of social interaction impossible. I'm alone, always alone. To me, no point in living with a life of only suffering and no hope for any kind of improvement in any realm.

Not sure that equates to the standards you shared. I'd like to know more though - thanks.

That's unfortunate I'm sorry to hear that.

Based on my research it seems like if a doctor deems it as incapacitating you may have an easier time convincing them that it's unendurable. I'm sorry about the trauma and PTSD that you've experienced. I can share their brochure if you're interested in reading more.

I'm not sure if they accept mental health disorders or not unfortunately (which is also really unfair). I know it does help if you have a chronic illness though.

Dignitas is really hard to get accepted through... pegasos charges $10,000 and there is no guarantee that they'll take you, they say on their website they don't accept the application of mentally ill or depressed people.

Where did you hear that? Have people on here applied to there and gotten denied? From what I read they had seemed reasonable to get into.

Thanks!

I think Id choose dignitas just because i know the most about it. Unfortunately though I still have a fear of dying so that doesn't really help me at all though.
