Forgot my aversion to heights

Going hiking with someone and just remembered I hate heights. I always get the extreme compulsion to jump from something. A bridge, a cliff, top of the stairs, etc. Realistically I'd just get myself hurt instead of dying. Not that I will jump off...but could I if I tried? Impulsive thinking.
