Open wounds means you might catch sepsis also known as blood poisoning. Sepsis is one of the worst ways to die. You might lose limbs or so and survive. You can google how it looks like, your limbs turn black and need to be amputated.

Some symptoms of sepsis is high fever, you can google symptoms.

Also, you might catch it if you cut with dirty blade or razor.

If stopping self harm isn't an option, just make sure whatever you use to harm yourself is clean and disinfect it after every use. Always properly bandage wounds and disinfect them.
