Even though it was a successful attempt my immediate reaction to watching is that those convulsions easily could have knocked it out of position, which would mean almost certain failure. The whole idea behind the method is completely impractical and just seems like a gimmick to me. No matter what limitations you are facing or what criteria is most important to you in choosing a method, this is never going to be the best option and you'll never be in a situation where this is possible but nothing else is.

I do not have a medical background. However, I think the gasping and snorting was agonal breathing. It's a natural reflex by the brain stem that occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen (in this case, due to compression of the carotid arteries). It looks to us like he was suffering for minutes, but perhaps he was already unconscious after a few seconds.

That said... I'd rather shoot myself than die like that.

That was a hard watch, I hope he was unconscious within first minute, those sounds were disturbing, also it made me think those sounds would alert people if you don't live alone which would be an issue for this method, same in a hotel. RIP and also the comments on that video are fucking disgusting, the world we live in is so cold.

most people have agonal breathing even when they die of natural causes. I think I've even seen snippets of agonal breathing (or labored, rattling breathing at the very least) with N.

I've come across a video of a man who used the night night with ratchet sling method from start of the act till passing. I thought it is a great example for people thinking about this method who are concerned about how long it takes for you to loose consciousness and what your body goes through after you do. It is not for the faint hearted or people that are sensitive to viewing someone die.
I haven't linked it in this post in case it breaks a forum rule. I will post it if I get a reply letting me know it is ok.

Guys. He was unconscious already, that was just agonal breathing and minor convulsions, that's why there was no SI.
Still pretty weird, the comments doesn't help either,haha.
I thought you would need a lot more pressure tbh, it seemed like he just tip tapped some stuff and that was it.

i Did judo for 30 years plus, it's a blood choke, unconcious in 5 secs, brain death about 5 mins. virtually painless. only takes 5lb to close off arteries, 40lb to affect windpipe

I thought that being painful. The cloth was all the way round his neck so the pressure on his neck must of been choking him as the pressure pads should ideally been placed on the c arteries. Strapping aswell on the front must of put so much pressure on the windpipe ouch

Well I am also planning to go with this method, but I think this guy tightened the ratchet too much than he should have, and ended up compressing his windpipe, and it triggered the reflex so SI kicked in. And I think if he had done it correctly, he would just pass out max in 30 seconds. But yeah night night is not easy to do, but in theory you can end up passing out in seconds and die smoothly. I would use SN if I was able to get it, it would be impossible to survive or suffer through the process and I could make sure of my death so I can finally exit this nightmare. This is my only option.

But in the end, I hope you can find what you are looking for.
