A common tactic among people "raising awareness" is to get a piece of mainstream news and then repeat it over and over again. So once every week or so in cadence the group around @fixthe26 with it's total reach of less than 150 people following it including me (guess which one @kelli) dredges up the same headlines again and again about "lawmakers urged to take on big tech" or "NY Times takes aim at suicide site" from several.monrhs ago. Then a group of a few followers likes and pushes out a few refrains of "we must stop them" or "Congress should do something"
Then a few weeks later they push out the exact rinse cycle of headlines. They have taken to chopping the date off the particles to try and evoke a more visceral response as though there is a sudden news bulletin since the topic is losing relevance. I personally keep hoping for something insightful about topics such as: the status of mental health legislation, the rising numbers of suicides in different populations, factors that cause people to feel alone and dissociated, the impact of bullying on LGBT and other groups and the impact and correlations of those issues on suicide. While we have OVER 1.5 MILLION DEATHS ATTRIBUTED TO SUICIDE PER YEAR AS OF 2020:
Suicide is among the 10 leading causes of death for all ages in most of the countries for which information is available. In some countries, it is among the top three causes of death for people aged 15-34 years.
In the year 2020, approximately 1.53 million people will die from suicide based on current trends and according to WHO estimates. Ten to 20 times more people will attempt suicide worldwide (2). This represents on average one death every 20 seconds
Or one death every 20 seconds, the over referenced NY times article found that the SS site has four million unique views in a month..
The total stats of US SN deaths which is their chief legislative concern around this site is 42 as of the three year period from 2017-2020 which is less than 0.1 percent of all suicides in the USA in that time period.
So their effort to "raise awareness of a threat" is a bullying tactic to attack a group of people who are depressed and suicidal to close down their forum by raising awareness of an "evil method" that is killing the least of all methods. Speaking as the father of a suicide victim who took her own life as a young adult using a firearm I am disgusted that your bullying tactics go after a tiny population instead of trying to reduce firearm access which is the single largest killer of suicide victims globally. It's a good thing that the reach of their group is 150 people and three Congressional photos two of which are the same senator, Ted Cruz.
My effort continues to be to highlight the severe increase in numbers of suicide victims and even faster rise of suicidal ideation patients.
