Here's an obscure one. I used to watch the original Inspector Gadget cartoon as a kid. Apparently it was made in 1984 and '85. The antagonist, Dr. Claw, whose face was never seen, had a cat whose name turns out to be M.A.D. Cat.

I found another one from my childhood.

One of the biggest songs of 1990 was Paula Abdul's Opposites Attract. In those days, the top 40 hits would play on the TV once per week. We had to get up early on a Saturday morning to watch them, and be ready to record onto a VHS cassette in order to play them back later.



Opposites Attract boasted clever choreography featuring a cartoon cat. Following the song's success, the cat (known as MC Skat Kat) was spun off onto his own record in 1991, though the resulting album proved highly unsuccessful.
