They can be inspirational, meaningful to you in some way, or just something you like the sound of. Whether it's from a book, a song, a speech, doesn't matter.

I'll start by sharing two excerpts that really speak to me, purely for aesthetic reasons:

From "The Haunting of Hill House":
No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met nearly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.

And from a game called "Anatomy":
Did it not occur to you that as an organism existing within a greater organism, your intrusion would be felt? And still you harass. And now, like the wayward spider who witlessly settled on a sleeper's tongue, you will be swallowed. Because the truth is this. When a house is both hungry and awake, every room becomes a mouth.

For me, both of these excerpts describe a very specific kind of haunted house, one where the house itself is the source of fear.

What are some of yours, and why?

Dear as remember'd kisses after death,
And sweet as those by hopeless fancy feign'd
On lips that are for others; deep as love,
Deep as first love, and wild with all regret;
O Death in Life, the days that are no more!

From 'Cast Away':
Who knows what the tide could bring?

From 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King':
No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path... one that we all must take.

From Wintersun's 'Land of Snow and Sorrow':
Night is falling over my home
The land of snow and sorrow, oh carry me away from the cold
And I fall asleep and I will not be afraid
All I was is gone now and sorrow is all I feel

The mind blanks at the glare. Not in remorse
—The good not done, the love not given, time
Torn off unused—nor wretchedly because
An only life can take so long to climb
Clear of its wrong beginnings, and may never;
But at the total emptiness for ever,
The sure extinction that we travel to
And shall be lost in always. Not to be here,
Not to be anywhere,
And soon; nothing more terrible, nothing more true.
Ai fervidi, ai felici,
Agli animosi ingegni
L'uno o l'altro di voi conceda il fato,
Dolci signori, amici
All'umana famiglia,
Ricompensar tentai,
Non tardar più, t'inchina
A disusati preghi,
Chiudi alla luce omai
Questi occhi tristi, o dell'età reina.
Per antica viltà l'umana gente;
Ogni vana speranza onde consola
Se coi fanciulli il mondo,
Ogni conforto stolto
Gittar da me; null'altro in alcun tempo
Sperar, se non te sola;
Solo aspettar sereno

Not a quote but a poem.

Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea:
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me—
Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we—
Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

This is beautiful. I hadn't read this before, admittedly I haven't really delved into Poe's work. However, it did sound familiar... so I realized one of my favourite bands wrote a song inspired by this:
La Dispute - Fall Down, Never Get Back Up Again

I've listened to this countless times and never knew.
Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I've read it by chance somewhere. I also found it familiar and was struck by it as well. Poe definitely deserves his credits.

I think I posted a couple of my favourite quotes in previous threads
My favourite quote: 'Death must be so beautiful, To lie in the soft brown earth with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen to silence, to have no yesterday and no tomorrow. To forget time, forgive life and be at peace' - Oscar Wilde.
The one that I relate to the most, 'sleep is good, death is better, but of course the best thing would to have never been born at all' - Heinrich Heine

Don't mean to revive this thread, but came across this quote from a short story called "Dread" by Clive Barker that rang true:

And Quaid knew [...] that there was worse in the world than dread. Worse than death itself. There was pain without hope of healing. There was life that refused to end, long after the mind had begged the body to cease.

From 'Kokoro' by Sōseki Natsume:

Though I had resolved to live as if I were dead, some external stimulus would occasionally set my heart dancing. But the moment I felt the urge to break through my deathly impasse and act, a terrible force would rise up out of nowhere and press me fiercely back into immobility. A voice would bear down on me with the words You have no right, and I would instantly wilt and go limp. When a little later I tried to rise again, again this force would press me back. I ground my teeth in impotent rage. "Why do you stand in my way like this?" I would cry. The strange force would laugh coldly back at me and reply, You know very well why. And again my will would collapse.

My favourite:

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
