In Belgium, euthanasia can be provided to patients with ongoing mental illness. I have bipolar, and I have been trying various medication for a while but nothing has worked so far. I hope to find something that does work so I can live a happy life, but if I can't I feel great relief knowing that I have a way out. That whatever happens, I won't continue to suffer like this for decades to come.

I just wish that I had a doctor that understood this and was legally allowed to help me ctb if it comes to that. You can't stop people from killing themselves, but if they are mentally ill you can try to help them get treatment first and offer euthanasia as a last resort. Euthanasia that is guaranteed to work, and work quickly and painlessly. Unlike suicide which can fail leaving you a vegetable, and even if you succeed your last moments on this earth might be in great pain depending on your method. I'm sure everyone on this website has these kind of fears. It's such a shame that the whole world isn't like Belgium.

Check out this great documentary on euthanasia in Belgium

Is euthanasia less painful than something like nembutal or other peaceful methods? What is used for euthanasia?

I'll have to rewatch that documentary but from what I remember it's a cocktail designed for you to fall asleep peacefully in a matter of minutes and never wake up. Sounds very peaceful and painless.

I've watched a few videos online - that I could find - of people dying after drinking some cocktail at Dignitas in Switzerland. It's where some from the UK will travel to as it's entirely illegal np matter what horrific state you are in here in the UK.
It looked peaceful to me

The Netherlands (my place) is a bit like Belgium. Mental illness also has a chance of getting green light. Everyone can do a serious request for euthanasia. Here you can choose between drinking the Nembutal cocktail or an injection. I would definitely go for the latter after having seen the unedited video of Peter Smedley drinking N. in Dignitas. It didn't seem that peaceful to me and although his suffering might have been a matter of seconds it was enough for me to awaken my aversion against N. Yes I have N, but it's not my method (no ingestion way out for me) and I didn't even open the package which arrived in January this year. Doing a serious request for euthanasia isn't my thing either with all the in-depth convos with docs awaiting for me (at least not yet), just to convince them of my suffering. Nah! It is like fighting against the system again and I've had enough of it. And with that, you have to be genuinely sure you are ready, many have been pulling back after getting green light. They weren't so sure after all. I just want to have peace of mind with a method I can trust at home. Well, that all is just me ;)

I guess everybody is different. For me going through all of that testing and medication before getting the green light would be a huge validation that what I am doing is right. Proof that I have tried my best to fix a broken machine before throwing it away.

Yes i think I saw this one. Is this where he said water water and coughed before he then went out. It didn't look great but it looked like 3 seconds of that maximum. I feel like that going under anaesthetic.
I would much prefer to see more videos as there aren't many and if you're going through all that to get there you want it to be the most calm painless experience possible

What was the video about

It was about drinking N. in Dignitas (Switzerland) Love. You can find the vid back by googling "Peter Smedley unedited video" and you will get it in the first hit.

note: the official injection after getting green light like in the Belgium video on this thread is not Nembutal (nembutal per injection seems to be a very bad thing if you google around and arrive at suffering prisoners who were getting the death penalty with it)

saw this video also.
a bit scary tbh.
I thought about it, maybe it is something due to his sitting position which caused him to choke a bit.
I think the position you are at the time of drinking is really important for the peacefulness.
I think maybe lying down with raised head might be the best.
completely lying might cause you to vomit and/or choke.
He was sitting which might be ok(?) but his head was falling forward, kind of a hunched back.

I think it was just like few second he cough and ask for water then fall unconscious
seems to me like he was still in conscious and was relaxed as she grabbed and hugged him and than went unconscious in her arms. I have a feeling if he were alone it was maybe a couple more seconds to go fully unconscious and its not peaceful in any way to die terrified.

to be clear I'm not against N. I think it is the best option. but as in this case you need to be ready for it and have the right state of mind.
he was panicking a bit and maybe thats why he asked for water(?)

Or it was simply "too hot to handle" and he couldn't stand the burning pain inside… that's what I Always assumed. I might've read too many horrific Injectable N. cases with burning complaints in the death penalty realm but we simply don't know. It keeps giving me the creeps seeing this tho.

But isn't that reported cases where they took in form of injection rather than taking orally

Yup exactly. Orally it might reach your brain faster (?) but that doesn't mean you won't get some of the burning sensations.
