I just got back to my hometown after being medevaced across the country last month. I was sent to a hospital to do ECT. I really thought it would do something. I feel no different. I've tried meds, TMS, and multiple therapies. Both psychiatrists in my town (we only have two) have told me that they don't know what to do to help me anymore. This is all so exhausting. I keep being told to try harder, but I don't know what to try anymore. I just need to die, already.

Have you looked into glutamatergic treatments (like 'AMPA PAMs' and DAAO inhibitors like Sodium Benzoate?)

AMPA PAMs are currently trialed in the US afaik.. They are also probably gonna get on the market within the next years perhaps..

There may be active trials you could take part in.

I've never heard of these before. I will look into it. I live in Canada, though, so it will probably take a very long time for AMPA PAMs to be prescribable for psychiatric reasons

That's why I'm suggesting to find studies/trials you can take part in

Iirc, AMPA PAM research really began, when they found out that AMPA negative modulators, caused Ketamine's paradoxical and rapid antidepressant effects to stop (in animal-models)

I agree with divinemistress that psychedelics may be a good step forward for you, if you want to explore experimental treatments. Imo, ECT is awful and should have no place in modern medicine, so I would not feel discouraged that the results from it have been suboptimal for you considering it is a last resort relic of past, throwing darts at the wall, type of approach. They seriously cannot tell you that you aren't trying hard enough, whilst subjecting you to such a major procedure. That is just my opinion, though.

It's well known how seizures are harmful for memory, cognition, and so on, and how difficult it can be to recover from them, so it blows my mind how this sort of thing can still be practiced and endorsed by so many. It is definitely not a lack of effort or trying on your part, the random nature of ECT induced seizures makes it such a gamble as to whether it will have any sort of effect or not. Have you tried MAOIs? It may be worth reading up on the side effects profiles and dietary restrictions required, and it is difficult to get them prescribed, but I think some people have some success with them whenever everything else has failed.
