I would strongly advise against DXM in favor of other dissociative drugs that are similar to it but better, with less unpleasantness at higher doses. It isn't the DXM itself that is particularly problematic but a lot of the stuff usually included WITH it. Granted other dissociative drugs are often either outright illegal or in a grey area that makes them hard to come by (and often simply too new to have been illegalized yet).
One you almost certainly won't find, as it is now almost extinct, is MXE and it is the one I would most recommend. I don't think my mental health has EVER been better than the day after the first time I did MXE and it lasted for a good while, though long term daily use can lead to some odd delusional thinking (I have personally witnessed this with a friend) and cause bladder problems, but most of these drugs are relatively safe if used responsibly, though PLEASE do not take my word for it and do the research yourself (I recommend erowid as a good starting point). Ketamine, if you can get it from a decent source, is also fantastic (in moderation, as with all things) and is showing real promise in actual clinical work. Though with all of these things, even if you trust the source I would be very careful your first time and would even go as far as to chemically test it if possible (which can be done at home with things ordered relatively inexpensively online).
Not that I'm encouraging you to break the law, mind, but things are out there, and if I were you DXM would be my last choice. But if you DO go for it try to get it as pure as you can.
