I was just wondering whether shallow water blackout is a viable method of ctb for the average person who isn't an athlete or something. Is it possible to hyperventilate enough to the point of passing out after starting a breath hold, or doesn't it work that way. Could you hyperventilating for upwards of 15 minutes then breath hold and eventually pass out without having to the the quickly standing up and blowing on your thumb technique? Sorry if it's a silly question, trying to leave no stone unturned.

SWB is a viable method for ctb, people use it and succeed afaik. You'll just need to tie yourself together and weigh yourself down with some things.

If you can hyperventilate easily, then SWB would be a viable method for you. If not, then I don't recommend it. Many people have trouble hyperventilating AND after doing that they lose the courage to get in the bathtub or wherever they plan to carry out their plan.

Thank you for reply. One of the days I'm doing to try hyperventilating for a long time, maybe around 10-15 minutes and do a very prolonged breath hold and see if I faint or not. Something tells me if won't work unless I do that technique of standing up quickly and blowing on thumb or whatever it is, but it's worth a try lol

It's where you hypventilate before quickly standing up and then blowing on your thumb or something, apparently makes you pass out

I think you're refering to induced syncope through hyperventilation, rapid raising and the Valsalva maneuver.

Thank you. I'm.not sure if syncope can be induced by hyperventilation alone w out rapid raising and Valsalva maneuver
