Driving off Beachy Head you'd make the evening news, zero doubt. If you want to become infamous in your attempt then I guess ok but personally I'd be wanting something a bit more discreet.

Also although it's almost 25 years since I was there I seem to remember there's a low fence separating the road from the grassy area that leads to the cliff. The ground is also fairly rough and bumpy so driving off might be challenging especially in a regular car. You'd end up with a lot of explaining to do if you wound up stuck halfway across the grass.

Thanks for the information.

I haven't been to either places, but I believe than with the right planning, anything is possible.

I'm pretty sure I've seen images/videos of Beachy Head, where it's all grass?

I'm planning to jump off beachy head. Not on a weekend / school holiday / bank holiday. There will be too many crowds and tour buses full of people (thought a lot of them stand right next to the edge and look over even though they're not suicidal and that cliff gives way without notice). I'll go early evening while it's still light with a backpack and flask wearing my hiking gear. If any of the Beachy ahead chaplains are reading this, the description is one that fits many just out for a hike. I think I'm going off on a rant now but I'm just so so so angry at being stuck in hospital and forced to have to contemplate suicide rather than be allowed a peaceful death.

When are you thinking of going?

We could go together?

It is but it's chalky downlands so there are bumps and dips. People have done it before, but like I said, they made the news:

There are also some cases where the driver survived:

Humber cos it's closer but not sure what anti ctb things they've got in place. I know there's a charity that walks up and down checking. And I know the walkway is shut from 9pm - dont know how easy it is to get round that. Was my preferred method and haven't ruled it out but scared I might survive but with paralysing injuries. I don't want fame. I just want to quietly be gone

Many thanks.

I wouldn't jump off Beachy Head. In fact, I wouldn't jump onto any hard surface. Scares me too much; that's why the driving method came to mind.

And I know that hitting water, from a certain height, is like hitting a brick wall, but it's just more appealing to me.

For me, it's much further away.

A long drive.

But my method is simple, and I believe effective: I'll just pay to drive over, then suddenly stop half way over, get out of my car, dart to the little railing, and climb over.

Once I'm over, I'll have control.

I also fear surviving, and having life changing injuries, so I'll use my time to gather my thoughts, get myself worked up, then jump.
