You shouldn't eat anything for 8-12 hours before taking SN, but is drinking tea with sugar fine during that time? I would assume so because it's a liquid like water (with sugar)

You'd be fine. Sn is lethal as it is. I took 7g in lemon fanta. Didn't fast and didn't follow protocol. I had a cardiac arrest and only survived due to intense medical care.

Yeah that's why I said "a liquid", because it's only recommended not to eat for 12 hours (and stop drinking 2 hours before taking SN)Similar threads
