In the past 6 months, three very close friends decided to ctb and each by a different method. One of those friends I knew was going to ctb and we even discussed methods. Thing is that she said to me that for her, it was the end, the outcome that mattered and not the method and this got me thinking. If things are really that bad would any or all methods do? She and I had been friends since school and we had very open chats. She knew that one day my time would come too. She did have a preferred method with SN but couldn't get it so she used the short drop. I still have the last text she sent me which was like "I am at peace, see you on the other side". She was gone less than 15 minutes later. So is it the method that makes the decision to ctb or will any do?

The only thing that matters is commitment level in the end. People want to die they find a way. Discussion boards like this for a luxury in a way. Most people that kill themselves don't talk about it on a form they just do it.

It matters as far as the method is reliable, as far as I'm concerned, anyway. Simply, some methods are more of a gamble and fail much more than succeed. Also, some methods are more peaceful than others, and that matters to me, too. I'd rather not go through a bunch of pain to get to my ultimate destination.

If one manages to successfully die then nothing could matter to them. And that's why ceasing to exist appeals to me as it's permanent and by that point existence will no longer be my problem, instead I'll be at peace with all forgotten about.

I think it depends on the person. I own a gun but I will never use it to ctb, even though it would be easier than the method I intend to use. There is a very large cliff just a mile from where I live, it's easily accessible, and jumping off it would certainly be fatal, but I don't intend ever to jump off it. I don't want to end my life in any kind of violent way. I just don't like the idea. I want to go out in a calm and peaceful way.
However, I have the luxury of being able to make other plans. If I was under great pressure to ctb right now - which I'm not, and I don't expect ever to be in that situation - perhaps I would look at things differently.

itself does not have a method problem. I know at least 3 good methods. But it's a problem for me how to do it without hurting my grandparents. The strong longing is gone.

The method does matter to me. Imo just because you have full will doesn't mean any method would work. Plus even though the aim is to die in any method, there are some that I am just not comfortable going through, be it for it's peacefulness or effectiveness.

Some of the most rabid life-haters continue to persist here so that's pretty clear proof it does matter. For people who kill themselves on an impulse without much deliberation it may not matter much.

I don't think the method matters at all, this becomes more and more clear. The amount of people who store SN, fentanyl or pentobarbital (aka Nembutal) underlines for me that we only CTB once fully ready.

When we are truly ready, all excuses to stay here are gone and we find a way.

The only thing that matters is picking a method that is reliable and that you would be comfortable doing.
Someone who is really ready to go doesn't become fixated on only one method. If they are unable to obtain their ideal method or it isn't a practical method in their situation, they will pick another method that they are comfortable doing.

Statistics show that different methods have varied success rates, usually with a strong correlation towards "violent" methods being most commonly successful.
