I'm religious but I still feel suicidal sometimes. However, I don't believe God is anti-suicide or that you get punished for killing yourself. God is all-knowing and all-loving, so if I decide to ctb He will know exactly why, understand me, and forgive me. I believe that's the case for everyone, so long as you choose to do good to the best of your ability.

Religion helped me feel like I had control over my life when I otherwise had none. It helps me feel less afraid of both life and death. So in that way, it's a comfort when I feel suicidal, but it doesn't make it go away. It's hard to fight genetic predisposition and millions of unfortunate (or fortunate in the wrong combinations) environmental variables though.

I'm not religious but I really like believers like you!!

If there's a God, what you're saying makes total sense!!

Unless he/she/it is evil, why wouldn't he "forgive" you for ctb? Do you have to be forced to suffer on this goddamn blue rock so as to go to heaven? Nonsense lol!!

Thanks for dropping by, pal!

Hugs,

Matt

i see religion as something for people to believe in, something that gives them hope

also gives them some guidelines in life as to what's good and what's bad

so they're not in full control of their lives

when you can't relay on yourself or people around you, you can fall back to something (or someone) else and simply pray

so yea it wouldn't surprise me if religion makes people less suicidal

doesn't mean that it'd be the cure for non-religious people with depression or very dark thoughts

if i have to believe in something, it'd be myself and the value of a further life

I mean, you should both fear and LOVE God, you have to have both. But yes religious people are less suicidal.

I think it is similar to the way children see Santa Claus. You better watch out and do the right thing, or you don't get the goodies in the end .

If I had religion, I would have wanted to kill myself long before now. 🤪

Yes, less suicidal and less likely to commit.
