It does to an extent, though it feels more like self-hate than any real bitterness towards the other person. I feel like I'm simply not doing enough and often have to remind myself that, regardless of how well one does in life, we're all just sacks of meat in the end, and that the choices we make are more meaningful than the outcome.
On a slightly related note, sometimes I actually pity those who are having a good time, as all good things come to an end. I often wonder how long their joy will last, or what might take it away (not that I actively want anything bad to happen to those who are happy, of course. that would be cruel). Maybe this is just a "me" thing, but I tend to distrust any kind of good that happens nowadays.
