Did you willingly tell them or did they craftily figure it out ?
If No, what stops you from telling family or friends you are suicidal .

My friend had found out the night of an attempt and she cycled over to my house to stop me, but my sister read my diary and showed it to my parents. They sat in the living room on the sofa and they all laughed and made fun of me

No, I don't think so. But they might, they've always known things about me without letting on, so who knows?

I never told anyone when I had family/friends who were alive. Now, everyone is dead, so I have no one (irl) to tell - not that I would anyway.

I would see it as being a terrible idea opening up about wanting to die as we exist in this anti-suicide society where there is a lack of acceptance towards the right to die and where suicidal people end up being punished for making a decision in which they have every right to make. Opening up about wanting to die can easily make existing much worse, it can lead to suffering more in a horrible psych ward or it could potentially lead to other people interfering with suicide plans. So to answer the question, no.

Not until I tried to hang myself when I was 14 years old. Then more and more people started becoming aware of my tendencies, which is something I regret to this day.

my parents found out after one of my attempts, and later mentioned it to my gp at the time to get a therapist in a futile attempt to get help. other than that i dont like telling people. i dont want to worry anyone bc im still unsure if ill ever be able to successfully ctb so they could be worrying for nothing, and also bc i dont want anyone to get in the way.

A few months ago, my suicidal ideation was still just passive. When I tried talking about it with my best friend she'd just brush it off. She'd say things like "You're not going to kill yourself," and "You'll be fine,". Couldn't talk to anyone else so I figured it'd be better to keep things to myself after that.

I told my friend. He's tried it before himself. I told my doctor, therapists, and some other medical people too. Oh and some of my managers at work know. Work only knows I have at some point and nothing about degree. Have been completely frank with medical people.

Out of curiosity, how did they react to the news ? Did the managers hamper your career due to negative bias associated with CTB ?

My friend encouraged me to phone my doctor. My doctor spoke about my options and suggested my antidepressants might not be working well enough and that I might want to try a new one. I asked to try venlafaxine and I'm getting up to dose now. I also got referred to the local mental health team again and they did a telephone assessment.

My managers were very reasonable and adjusted some of my hours. I'm not seeking a career here. Don't want to be a retail manager. Honestly a bunch of my managers are on anti-depressants. I know one has been in a very dark place in the past.
