I went to a national park on Monday. I figured getting there early would result in a fairly easy view of some of the lesser attractions and it's not a critical mega park like Yellowstone or Grand canyon. I was surprised to arrive at a waiting line to get in via transportation bus with hundreds of people. The volume of people wanting to see the (fill in your favorite type of national park thing) was significantly over the capacity the park could handle. Over the years the park has had to pave critical elements and only allow access to those via remote monitored paths and limit the numbers of people per day. And everyone ran and jostled for position on the buses and rushed to pay and see the brief glimose of the national wonder. Around the area subdivisions of vacation homes have spring up for the millions marketed "borders national Park xyz"
I felt down and overwhelmed as usual. I have started to realize that we as a society will never have quiet peace and joy. Humanity is inevitably a horrible mess of people trying to beg each other into doing things to benefit and grab for resources. You will become less valuable and less important every day.
