Assuming both individuals were healthy and tried to commit suicide with the same method, I'd assume that the younger brain would put up more resistance…but why would that be the case?

I think it entirely depends tbh. Lets use, say, a 16 year old and a 42 year old as an example.
The 16 year old's frontal lobe isn't fully developed yet, meaning they are more likely to act out their desires without much thought of the consequences. Younger brains tend to hold less fear as they know less about what there is to be afraid of.
A 42 year old, on the other hand, has a fully developed frontal lobe. They are more likely to understand societal morals and the difference between right and wrong. They are capable of thinking things out more clearly before taking action.

I don't think so. Sure more older people commit than younger ones, but that's because life is getting generally more shit as you get older, I don't think it's bc it gets easier mentally for older people. I think my si is harder to overcome now than when I was younger where I did actually attempt, as opposed to now where I am stuck in limbo. When you are a teen you have all the hormones acting crazy, the body has less experience of being alive so it doesn't cling to life as much, you have more energy to act, you are more reckless and impulsive and you don't think everything through.

Ah sorry I phrased this wrong but I am mainly referring to actually surviving an attempt than just mental hurdles or self preservation instinct towards suicide.
I think so. It's easier to convince young people that things get better when you're older. Once you're older and all hope of anything getting better is gone there's not much to preserve anymore.
