Do you think you are a good or bad person?

Obviously we all have our ups and downs as humans, but deep down if you have to choose one option for yourself do you think you are a good person or a bad person?

Would be interesting to explain a little bit why in the comments...

I have always viewed myself as a bad person. I find it very easy to pick out people from history or from the media and label them as 'good' or 'bad', too. But I struggle a lot with deciding whether people whom I know in person, people whom I know well, for better or for worse, are themselves 'good' or 'bad' people. That struggle is an indicator of how difficult it is to boil something as complex as a human being into a tiny box of a single, all-encompassing word.

Despite that, I maintain that I am a bad person. Bad in a sense of societal expectations: I don't contribute to society, financially or otherwise. Bad in a sense of morals and ethics: I am selfish to an excessive degree, and this defines all aspects of my existence. And bad in the sense that if anyone ever did 'design' humans back in some nebulous time of beginning, they'd definitely take me back and try to claim some sort of warranty for defects.

Psychologists and psychiatrists alike in the past have tried to dissect this certainty that I am bad against the inability to label others as such. They can fuck off.

I picked good, since people tell me I am a good person. But, I have some bad traits, so I feel like my vote doesn't accurately represent whether I am a good person or not.

Overall I would describe myself as a good person; I know what it's like to be in pain and I'd like to avoid making others feel that way. The only person I consistently treat poorly is myself lol

I have tried all my life to be good to others, however with mental illness rearing its ugly head on occasion, there might be somebody in my past who would think differently.

Everyone has good and bad, it is called human nature, and hopefully the good outweighs the bad.

I don't care tbh. Those labels are arbitrary. Idk what it means to be a good or bad person. That perception will vary, and what one thinks is a "good" person, another will think is a "bad" person. Who cares. Just do what feels right to you

Depends who you're comparing me to. I've known actively good- literally amazing people in life who do so much for others. In not being actively good- it could easily be argued that I'm bad. I'm certainly very selfish a lot of the time. So- that's bad for one.

I find it really hard to choose though. I don't think I wish bad upon others or, try to make their lives worse but then, I'm not exactly a pacifist either. I'll be bitchy towards someone if they are bitchy first. There are certainly elements of myself that I'm not keen on.

But then, I actually don't think it serves us well to be too nice or good in this world! I've seen very passive, generous people get walked over, manipulated and hurt. If being rude or sharp on occassions avoids that outcome then- it seems reasonable.

Plus- it isn't good for the mannipulative users out there to always be able to bulldoze over others. It surely does the whole population good for some to stand up against them. If you can do that in a nice way- I guess that's the ideal- without losing your cool and descending into insults.

Maybe the worst of it is, I feel like I had the potential to be much nicer than I am! Maybe the real tell is that I don't even feel all that guilty/ shameful about it.

I wouldn't say I was bad but, I'm not good either. I find it hard to pick.

Definitely true yes, it would be interesting to hear people's opinions as to what are the main qualities people think make good or bad people. Obviously its pretty subjective. I read some people in the comments saying that as they havr a mental illness maybe that makes them a bad person but from my perspective it doesn't, they are two separate things. Another saying that they feel they don't contribute to society enough...but do you have to contribute to society to be a good person? Society seems such an unfair mess than none of us chose that seems like a stretch...but who knows

People have taken advantage of my kindness far too often, to the point where I try to automatically avoid people as much as I can now. I don't trust most people.

Good person. I almost have endless patience with people and I'm very giving and forgiving by nature. But if I decide to kick you out of my life (which happens rarely) they effing deserved it and I will completely denial their whole existence.

I try to be good, or at least whatever I interpret as "good". But really i don't care. I just try to be good because i know being a bad person just wastes so much time and energy later down the line. I sometimes convince myself that my good actions define me as a good person, but i know deep down that's not true. That's not how i really feel. Because deep down i just don't care about anything and would really just rather see the world burn sometimes.

The majority of people on earth are bad people. They can be kind to those they care about (MAYBE family, sometimes friends) but treat everyone else around them like objects, yell at retail workers, laugh at people at their lowest, are bigoted in some way, etc.

The percentage of truly, genuinely "good" people is almost so low its negligible.

Mankind has done nothing but slightly "improve" for centuries, yet Im sure 90% of the users on here want to embrace traditionlism (like most Westerners nowadays) and go back to public flogging.

When I walk around, I assume everyone around me is evil, and they most likely are.

People read about war, assault, torture and spout "aw, thats too bad" and go about their day because it doesnt directly affect them. People say youre being negative if you even try to discuss the worlds atrocities because again, nobody gives a shit about anything unless it affects them.

I am a bad person, because like most, I am selfish and self centered. I avoid human interaction, so I avoid unleashing entitled behavior on strangers, but what "good" have I, or anyone reading this, done to deserve being labelled a "good person" ?

Tldr: Good people are a rarity, most people are bad, borderline evil infact, and I am not a good person.
