i personally quite regularly felt like the keeping up of public appearances is a example of that, like, when ur life may be falling apart but when someone talks to you u just pretend ur a "normal person" as example, its like its not acceptable to have problems in this society so people who do are hidden away in psych wards or even if they arent, they just have tendency to naturally on thier own seclude themselves without really thinking about it in thier house, rooms, etc, its like shoving all of the "problem people" under the rug and trying to create this fake sense of "everyone is normal", except people do it on thier own, its like self regulating in a way

just some random thoughts may be interesting to discuss

I don't think it's exactly self-regulating- I think people do little digs and little shots and little slights, etc., until it becomes too painful and then people hide out.

In Britain, this is called stiff upper lip. It's universal, and gets taken to extremes in modern social media. Only in modern times are people becoming aware of the strange irony that positivity sometimes kills people.

Yeah people have that ability to self regulate and keep up appearances. Huge lacking and disadvantage for less adaptable folks. No need to go why or how come. Everybody could imagine multiple reasons. And I hear avoidance is common for people with mental illnesses no matter how much their can keep their act together or what exactly is their affliction.
When they are understress they present some kind of persona. I' m alright and happy nd respected.

I think ostracization is an element to be considered. Some things out of what's considered the norm is labelled a problem. A stigma is created being labelled a problem.

Yes. I barely leave the house anymore and I am so ashamed of myself and my life I do not even want to be seen by my neighbours or passing cars even. Barely have any friends either anymore. The good friends I use to have I just refuse to contact anymore. I am just a shell of who I used to be. I am maybe bipolar and I regret most of the things in my life. Just find it meaningless and repetetive. Turning 30 next year I feel like all my good years of happiness are gone. My brain feels broken. Every action just hurts and costs me a lot of energy. I dont feel a part of society anymore, and the more I learn about it my delusions about it are destroyed. The world turns out to be a more and more horrifying place to me by the minute. And I have decided I don't want to be a part of it anymore.

I remember years ago reading an article about an elderly British man you had just lost his wife in a fire that destroyed their home. "It's all very annoying", he said

Yes, I totally feel the pressure to hide my true self. It's very draining pretending to be someone I'm not.

Can't say this is true for everyone, but it's true in my case. I'd say it's justified, since I would only drag others down with me if I stayed around others for too long.
