Discussion Do you hate humanity?

Humanity is what it is. We are just animals that have an overly developed prefrontal cortex.

In the abstract, I want all humans to live their best lives with as much satisfaction and as little pain as possible. I do my job to try to make this so.

But named individuals exhaust me after a while, with their human faces asking me to be accountable to their wellbeing. They're not bad. They're mostly good most of the time. They're just exhausting.

Unnamed individuals, the ones I see but don't know personally, are mostly infuriating with their terrible behavior, whether in traffic or treating retail workers badly.

Humanity en masse is terrifying in my country what with the recent election decision they've made. They've decided to make life scary and harder for so many others, and eventually for themselves.

But there are countries that are forward-thinking and create policies that actually make life better for their citizens, e.g. Norway.

So... I can't bring myself to hate humanity, even though I agree with Sartre that "hell is other people."

I don't hate humanity as a whole. It would be like hating any other animal species. I think humans are just a wild animal like any other except we have been put into this complex and destructive system that has so many problems and we just don't know how to escape the system or fix it.

Yes, and it's less about relationships or how people treat me but how people treat each other. Reading about history and how awful people are to each other is probably the prime reason I have suicidal ideation.
