I think if I were Atheistic I would find suicide much easier.

I firmly believe that we live on after we leave our bodies, that makes me feel as though Suicide is a sin for want of a better word. This prevents me from being able to take my own life.

What effect do you think believing or not believing has in your ability to commit to suicide?

I wonder what the athiest to believer ratio is?

Well, I'm an atheist. That being said, I'm open-minded enough to the possibility that I could be wrong. But, being scientific minded, I have never seen one iota of proof of the existence of something after death. I was only provided with the ability to see, hear, taste, touch, and smell and these are all I have to evaluate in any definite way whether something is or isn't. Anything beyond that is philosophy. I understand about faith. If I am wrong, and there is some higher being, isn't it understood that we were given the "gift" of "free will"? I don't see, and have not been told about, some "asterisks" next to this given, or provided, capacity, given to us in the context of we have free will to choose between different possible courses of action unimpeded, but cannot exercise this capacity in regard to making a choice to "leave" our life if we so choose. Because of the way I see this concept, believing or not believing has no effect on my ability to ctb. Also, I had nothing to do with myself being brought into this world. All of a sudden, I just am. And then given free will? Also, if there is a higher power, and ctb is, indeed, a mortal sin, then how, being human, should one be held to account for such an action, when it is inherent within humans to be imperfect.

I believe that there is nothing after this, when we lose consciousness that is it for us, we cease to exist. There is no evidence of there being anything after death, I think that death is just like how before we were born, time passed and yet we were not aware of anything.

It's hard for me to believe. Why would my or anyone else's personal identity matter enough to continue existing after our bodies stop functioning?

I dont think there is anything. Like before you were born. Your brain activity is stopped, all that makes you will stop, you wont be a thing anymore. Its ot a bad thing either, imagine killing yourself then finding out you have to life forever as a friggin ghost. No thank you, I've done my time.

there are no evidence about afterlife. Even the NDE, which is the closest we've come to proving life after death, there's a whole study behind it that concludes that it's nothing more than chemical reactions in the brain. Honestly, i dont think so

I am agnostic leaning atheist, I don't believe so but I am too small of an existence in this world to know one way or the other for sure.

Absolutely do not believe in a Catholic esque hell and heaven afterlife though, sounds a bit absurd to me.

Doesn't matter to me ultimately, if there's nothing I get to be free of pain and conscience. If I am punished for the life I've lead then that higher power is an asshole with whom I want nothing to do with, if I go to some nice place, then great? If it's reincarnation then Fuck. But I won't remember anything anyway so, no matter it changes nothing to me.

Yes however I refuse to believe the afterlife is something known by anyone who isn't dead. I don't believe in a man made afterlife. Life is too bizarre for any of that

I'm an atheist who returned to the Catholic faith a few years ago. I live by faith and not sight as it were, so I don't know. I'd like to think so, but I'm prepared for darkness. If purgatory really is a thing I reckon I'll spend a fine chunk of time there.

I don't know why but I always get the feeling this life is just another lvl of existence if that makes any sense. Maybe we all go to the next world and live a different lifetime.

No, I don't. I think we're all a bag of chemicals that have been arranged through eons of evolution, and when we die, whatever we are breaks down. It just doesn't survive.

My personal belief. I mean no disrespect to anyone who believes differently.

Of course that's what it is. Same or very similar effect from eating different foods. Foods are nothing but chemicals in their purist sense. NDE experiences most likely brought about through chemical reactions in brain from drugs being given.

Physics law states matter cannot neither be created, or destroyed. We are matter. Everything here is. When we decompose, everything that breaks down, or seemingly goes away, does go away in one sense. But, if one were able to recapture everything, ie the rotting flesh, the gases, what the bugs eat, the heat from decomposition, whatever it is, if it were possible to recapture everything, it has to equal the amount of you that was you when you were you. Matter cannot be destroyed, only change forms. So, in a sense, I hate to say, we are still here even after we die.

I mostly believe there will be something after this it's just that there's always a possibility that there won't be though. I think i'm more scared of meeting whatever created us, it can't be very good.

In some religions being mentally ill guaranteed you a place in 'heaven', so I'd assume killing yourself would be viewed as a symptom of illness? But then, not everyone who kills themselves is mentally ill. Some people find religion comforting, a guide through this life, but others find it suffocating and scary, something imposing yet more rules on forced existence, warning you off with the threat of 'hell'

I am not religious, but I grew up in a religions family. They say suicide is one of the ultimate sin and you'll suffer in hell for eternity.

If that's true, then God is not a kind being. God will not help me when I am in pain... it's all on me to "fix" the problem in this world. And when all hope is lost and I want to CTB, God will put me in hell for committing suicide? What a terrible God... if one exists.

Isn't it weird how religion ebbs and flows with what the masses will speak up for? The Catholic Church has always allowed its people to condemn people for suicide, but now the belief is that God knows your heart and you must have been very ill to choose to take your own life. No shit.

I don't think there is anything there. Once the combination of atoms that makes us who we are, are no longer in that combination, we are no more.

I did grow up going to church 3 times a week but as I got older, I was able to see how many gods there are and how ludicrous it is to believe one is actually watching over us or wanting us to worship at their feet to be able to get into some magical place or burn in hell.

I'm open minded enough to think, in time, there could be some combination of atoms that would, in effect, be heaven, but it's not there after we die. Time is infinite, space is probably infinite, just a matter of time for anything to happen.

It is one less variable to consider when looking to ctb, so I guess that makes it easier on some level but self preservation is a bitch regardless
