Their ways are odd and I cannot relate to their petty problems.

This is a super harmful way of viewing others. Everybody has their own shit going on, others "petty" problems only seem petty because we live different lives. Doesn't mean their literal side quest givers with 3 lines of dialogue.

Your last sentence was funny but unfortunately it's entirely accurate. How many lines of dialogue have you actually heard from a stranger?

On a serious note, why is it harmful?

It'll depend on how many lines of dialogue I ask the stranger. I've gotten into very deep conversations with random people that taught me a lot about what they've been through. They're definitely not programmed by a junior coder at rockstar. They're real people.

It's the othering. The sense of "I'm the only real person in this simulation, therefore only I matter"... This leads to very dangerous and harmful views.

I've been isolated for awhile and I hardly respond to people in public anymore because I just don't view them as being anything like me. They look like biological machines (which we all are I guess) but you get the point

Somewhat, but I imagine pretty much everyone thinks that of others. Most people do have a lot of depth but are either unable or unwilling to show it. That's not to say they lack complexity, but rather they are just background noise to us by virtue of not being an active part of our lives.

I understand it in the context of people parroting tired platitudes and clichés, but in general I think it can be a bit harmful to think in those terms.

Yes, especially those who want to exist here and are against suicide. I view it as being irrational to want to exist in this harmful world that is filled with risks, I don't get how some people don't think of suicide when as humans we are only destined to be tortured by old age.

Old people must be masochists. I'm not even middle aged and I'm bored of the available entertainment. What am I supposed to do to stimulate myself for the next many decades?

Hmm, not really. But I view pretty much everyone with mistrust due to the amount of shit talking others do behind others ppls backs. It's really awful. I've decided to not approach or interact with ppl unless they do so first. I'd rather not waste much energy on those who might end up being a snake all along.

I used to, I think it was a part of dissociation. I knew who other people were but they didn't feel like people - more so machines.

I also saw myself as robotic or disconnected from reality, sort of like escaping a simulation. People seemed pre-programmed and I could predict responses.

Sometimes, it depends on the person. Some people are so "normal" and their way of being is so monotonous that they act like a real NPC. Sometimes it's me that acts like an NPC

No, I actually view most people as having NPD. Exhibit A – this thread.

Another awful narcissistic trend that has established itself on narcissistic social media in our increasingly narcissistic world. I feel so alienated from society because of how most people view the world around them and view themselves in relation to one another. It's hell.

I don't view people as "NPCs" (and old school RPG npc not newfangled GTA computerized fancy stuff).

People are people and it seems that viewing people as NPCs goes hand-hand with the lack of empathy and general crapiness of people lately. "Why not shoot off because they're just nobodies and in the world as window dressing for me?" I don't generally like most people but they are people and have their own problems, dreams, desires, etc. Discouting them because they aren't me or directly involved with me seems shallow. How do I fit in the world? I'm one of a couple billion people on the planet. I'm in the 99.9% who will never do anything lasting or earthshaking and live, do my thing, and die.

I've had someone straight up call me stupid to my face at work. And had two people try to sabotage me. Not to mention an inside joke two ppl have about me. Honestly I can't stand 50% of the ppl I work with at work.
