I don't think the real question is whether they care. It's why should they care? Having mental issues doesn't automatically make one a nice person.
If i think about the people i've known, some of them dying would probably make me sad. In some cases i would even be happy about the person dying. But mostly just indifferent. Why would it be any different to mental health workers? They are doing a job.
If they get attached to every person they treat/get familiar with in life, then they probably have some problems by themselves.
