Hi everyone, long time no chat. I took a step back from SS to focus on some real life matters that needed my attention, but I wanted to share something that happened just before I made this post.

Firstly, I want to clarify that the police were not involved in this check. However, it appears customs were. I placed an order with DMC on 21st March and received it in early April.

I was a bit puzzled because my therapist got in touch yesterday asking if she could call me. This was unusual, as we meet weekly, but I assumed it was due to me missing last week's session because I had two medical procedures done. Still it struck me as odd, because I've missed sessions before and we've just resumed the following week. Since my next session is only two days away, I thought she was just being considerate but something felt off.

As it turns out, my GP had been informed that I had allegedly ordered a "suicide kit" online, and they contacted my therapist to discuss a possible course of action. They had that conversation yesterday, 10th June. It's now 5:18pm on 11th June. My therapist was able to tell me that the parcel was supposedly intercepted at the border (which it wasn't...it's literally in the drawer next to me, lol), and that customs had alerted my GP to inform me that I had ordered this so called "suicide kit".
I told my therapist it's not a "suicide kit", it's just a substance, and that I don't actually have it in my possession. I kept a calm and confident tone and reassured her that I was safe.

And that was that. Left to be followed up in our next session.

I don't personally believe this had anything to do with DMC directly; more likely that NZ Customs picked it up on their end. I do find it mildly amusing that customs apparently claimed they intercepted the parcel yet it was still delivered. Thankfully, no police turned up at the door. Honestly, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't carted off to hospital.

Take care out there. Welfare checks related to SN, in any form, can usually be avoided/combatted with a bit of confidence.

Thank you. It's highly regulated over here, so I find it odd that they let me have it if it was intercepted? I'm not sure. It's all rather confusing. I can't quite work out whether it was DMC being compromised (as he so convincingly appears to be) or if it was customs, as they claimed. Either way, happy to still be in my own bed.

Yeah, it's going to end up being hard to get everywhere and at some point impossible.

They're getting pretty smart. They don't have the resources to go directly to everyone's home, I guess, So when they can't do that, they're just sending the packages back to the seller. Yesterday, this Canadian person faced the same issue.

You're very lucky, you should be thanking your stars. You ended up receiving it cause of some sort of technical error. Someone on their side ****** up.

Yeah, I was surprised considering I spoke to her last week but it appears she was maybe only contacted yesterday. I'm doing well, just anxiety in the moment about being sectioned. After that, I was alright. Thank you for asking.

It probably had to do with DMC. I suspect packages from that adress get flagged in postal services as it's a widely used supplies for suicide.

Props to NZ for handling it this way though and not sending police who don't really care to your house.

Yeah, honestly if someone's really going to go through with it, calling actual mental health professionals makes way more sense than involving cops. Police show up with authority, not compassion most of the time. Most of them don't give a fuck, and the ones who do are still stuck in a system built for control.

Mental health crisis teams, when they exist, are usually less threatening.

I don't think they usually come with authority. I think often they're just doing their job and have no idea what to do or how to judge things. Saying they don't give a fuck will probably depend a bit on the officer but they're just not trained to handle suicidal people or people in distress.

I'm in New Zealand and I got a welfare check too. They contacted Hilmorton hospital which is a mental hospital where I have a caseworker because I had a psychotic episode while ago. Someone from the crisis team there rang my parents and told them. Then they rang me asked me why I ordered it and where was it now. I told them that I threw it away.

Hiya, I had a run in with Hillmorton after neing busted for attempting to import Nembutal 10 years ago. That place is hell on earth and to be avoided at all costs. Its good you told them that you threw it away but it would be handy to hand onto very discretely as that stuff is getting harder to get.

Surprised!! That is three of us from this tiny town. NZers are rare here let alone mainlanders. Ive had fantasies about outing the head psych. of that place : 30 years of bad policy saw the place externally audited in a major way about 5 years ago after more than a handful of deaths. Im loathe to believe any real changes happened as the same people are in charge, my own experiences with one dept.have been appalling. As for the nurses, it's just long-term 'jobs for the girls'. Utterly useless

I understand why. I was as well, and even when I spoke to my therapist in person about it, I remained guarded. But she said "I'm not the police". I also found it funny she said "Why didn't you tell me, like we discussed?", when I had very explicitly told her around the time I received it that it was my plan. But only now does it matter.
Stay safe, Purple. Heed the advice from others and find a safe spot for it if you still have it. It's getting cold around here, so you can hide it in more secretive spots without it deteriorating.

Don't be so sure. @gothbird 's experience shows us that where the state's concerned assumptions of patient confidentiality go out the window. I find it alarming that customs, her GP and therapist were able to have a seamless conversation about her private purchasing decisions without her being present. I imagine customs had to do some level of detective work to find her GP even if it was minor. The infrastructure for such data sharing exists in America. It's a concern beyond just obtaining SN. Therapists keep digital notes and if an oppressive government wanted to access them to profile the client it can easily be done.

Yeah, agreed! Customs flagged the package, probably contacted local police, but somehow it reached my GP and then my therapist without me being in the loop. No warning, no prior consent. Someone connected the dots, probably using the return address, name, or payment info (I did use my full name because at the time DMC was not compromised and I wanted to be certain it arrived). Once that chain started, I had no control over where it went.

Don't assume data privacy is airtight just because it's supposed to be. In a crisis context, especially when words like "risk" or "suicidal intent" or "suicide kit" are in play, normal rules get bypassed fast. Whether it's legal or not, it happened. The handoff between systems is quicker than you'd expect!

Thanks for your words, Kali!

It's in a nice hidden spot in the drawer.
That is not hidden.
I dont wish to sound contrary but I was involved with a sweep of nembutal importation into NZ some years ago.
I got a knock at the door and found cops, a social worker, and my brother of all people.
The interception had already taken place as myself and several others were sprung due to mutual email contact. And yeah, it was from the guy in Mexico.
Being a scheduled drug, they have right of search without a warrant. Your substance is not illegal so you would have been fine anyway as you can deny them entry.
For anyone in this situation deny, deny, deny. And if that is not possible due to a controlled delivery, check the package has not been opened, test it then get it the hell off your property to a friends house.
In NZ, health is major underfunded and over-worked so usually they'll interview you, make sure you are not admitting to immediate plans and let you go.
I was due to fly to SE Asia that week, the ghastly psych at THAT hospital who saw me asked me what I was most afraid of, to which I replied 'that you'll stop me flying'.
She said they couldnt do that and gave me a stern warning that many drugs were available where I was heading and that I should be very careful. I put on a wide-eyed look of wonder and exclaimed 'Really'!! and that I would be sure to heed her caution (Ive been holidaying in SE Asia since 1998 and know exactly what is where over there).
I suppose the saddest part about all that was the experience had a very 'check the boxes' feel about it. Ive noticed this with mental health here, they are very much about not having people fall over on their watch.

Anyway, just saying.....laws change all the time here and due to our high suicide stats they may make SN a licenced product, in which case one would want to have it well stashed.
Cheers

When I said it was hidden in the drawer, I meant I built a hidden compartment inside it, not just tossed it under some socks. I don't rely on surface level hiding for just about anything. I've been checked before (had cops come through my house for other substances used for ctb) and they never find anything due to that.

Appreciate it.
