I am planning on telling my doctor I am suicidal, hoping I will get some extra help .
This is part of my last few desperate pushes for getting help.

I think that this thread should be in the recovery section, as I don't really think that it's a good idea being open about wanting to die if one wishes to go through with suicide. Those who want "help" post in the recovery section.

Your doctor may have a duty of confidentiality depending on where you live. This means you can tell them anything, and they can't act upon that information without your consent unless you are a threat to yourself/others or are doing something very illegal.

When I told my doctor he asked me if I had made plans to CTB. This is important for them to know because if you have made plans already, they have authority to make sure you can't hurt yourself.

I would recommend you tell them all your symptoms and how you feel, because without this information the doctor will not be able to give you the help you need.

When I told my GP about my suicidal thoughts and what I had as regards my fentanyl and morphine stash she made an appointment for me that same day at the crisis center. They don't section suicidal people here and of course what I told her is confidential

Yes if he has a duty of confidentiality. I think doctors in most countries will have this for obvious reasons.

Not at all, I called him a few weeks ago asking for euthanasia and he just told me to call the suicide hotline.

If you're dealing with mental illness, it couldn't hurt.
If you're dealing with a physical illness, you should avoid bringing up mental health concerns to a medical doctor, as those will be used to dismiss your symptoms.

No. He just shrugged and changed the topic to movies, the only thing he wants to talk about.

I know the confidentiality was a thing, but when I told mines years ago, I got put in a psych ward for 3 months. Maybe because I said I feel like this nearly everyday he figured I was a real threat? I don't have insurance now though so good enough reason not to try to talk to doctors ever again for me!

This poll settled at 8/20 (40%) people getting more help if they confessed being suicidal to their doctor. Not bad at all .
