I like The Smiths.

The first one actually has lyrics that explicitly reference leaving. Also, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now and There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, although those are slightly more upbeat in terms of tempo (not lyrics)…

Also, I Have Forgiven Jesus by Morrissey is pretty good, if sort of darkly humorous rather than straight-up depressing. It has the lyrics:

Monday, humiliation, Tuesday, suffocation
Wednesday, condescension, Thursday is pathetic
By Friday, life has killed me

Lol.

(It probably helps that Morrissey is legit chronically depressed and seems to think about leaving a lot: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...e-and-everybody-thinks-about-it-10464515.html)

I know Metallica - the unforgiven to be pretty dark. Also one of my favourites "release hallucination" band have lots of dark , despair songs, but they are Japanese. At the end EastNewSound - Futarigoto, which is Japanese creepy song as well.

Good ol' Neon Genesis Evangelion. I think I love everything about this show. It's a masterpiece, really.
"Komm, süsser Tod" means "Come, sweet death" in German.
I know, I know I've let you down
I've been a fool to myself
I thought that I could
Live for no one else
But now, through all the hurt & pain
It's time for me to respect
The ones you love
Mean more than anything
So with sadness in my heart
(I) feel the best thing I could do
Is end it all
And leave forever
What's done is done
It feels so bad
What once was happy now is sad
I'll never love again
My world is ending

I wish that I could turn back time
'Cause now the guilt is all mine
Can't live without
The trust from those you love
I know we can't forget the past
You can't forget love & pride
Because of that, it's killing me inside

It all returns to nothing, it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing, I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down
In my heart of hearts
I know that I could never love again
I've lost everything
Everything
Everything that matters to me
Matters in this world

I wish that I could turn back time
'Cause now the guilt is all mine
Can't live without
The trust from those you love
I know we can't forget the past
You can't forget love & pride
Because of that, it's killing me inside

It all returns to nothing, it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing, I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down
It all returns to nothing, it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing, I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down

A great piece of Japanese indie music.
There's English translation embedded in the video, so feel free to give it a chance.

Some DSBM from Poland. Very obscure stuff. DSBM stands for Depressive Suicidal Black Metal.

Even more DSBM.

She was sitting alone on her bed in the dark room
and through the window the moon was pouring its pale light,
on her hair a red gleam was shimmering gently
and suddenly a strand fell onto her face.

A cool breeze on her skin, she was freezing from the inside,
she felt him sneaking up to her from behind,
he said, unfortunately there is no escape this time,
and gently he swept the tears out of her face.

Silently, completely silently,
as gently as the wind,
silently, completely silently
death is coming.

Then she leaped up and wanted to flee, was as if out of her mind,
'cause he walked towards her slowly, she moved back,
but she couldn't escape her fate anymore,
lost her balance and broke her neck.

Silently, completely silently,
as gently as the wind,
silently, completely silently
death is coming.

Silently, completely silently,
as gently as the wind,
silently, completely silently
death is coming.

By far, easily, most depressing song ever.

Warning: You probably WILL cry when you listen to this, especially if you listen to the lyrics. This could be disturbing.

I don't usually like minimalism, but this symphony is almost hypnotic in it's beauty.
