Has anyone attended a death cafe before? I read about them in a book. The aim is to reduce silence around death and dying and remove some of the stigma and reluctance to talk about it.

I was in a supermarket the other day and I saw a notice for one. I won't be able to attend as I am currently sectioned, but I was just wondering what they are like and what sort of discussions happen.

Sounds like a great idea- open up the subject over a nice hot cup of something.

I pictured something else- Nembutal shots or something!!

I've never heard of that before, I can imagine that it would probably be aimed at terminally ill people as this society is so incredibly pro-life with the focus on prolonging life after all.

There does seem to be a lot of people who refuse to face the fact that death is inevitable which is shown by how against the right to die they are. But anything that discusses death openly sounds like it could be beneficial, depending on what the discussion is like of course. I wish there were actually death cafes which people can go to die peacefully but sadly only animals are allowed the privledge of such a peaceful escape from all the suffering.

I've never heard of them, but then again I don't get out all that much, let alone look at notices on bulletin boards at supermarkets or other stores. Are these in the US? I think it would be most interesting to attend a meeting. They're probably few and far between and only located in liberal areas, I would assume.
