Dear Mods,

Would it be possible to encorporate into the SS forum a way for a member to create a farewell thread that would post itself at some set time in the future? I have not been here long, but I have seen a recurring theme of people wanting to let others --at home and of this community-- know that they have successfully crossed the bar. Being able to build a thread, an "Echo," that would post in, say, 48 hours, would allow us to say farewell --and yet to return and delete that Echo should we discover, when the moment comes, that it is not yet the right moment to CTB.

Such a time delay would be imperative, of course. Not just to prevent others from interfering with our intended departures, but also so that no one who creates such an Echo feels any pressure from it: they can always return and delete it before it posts, no false alarm needs to be inflicted, no one ever needs know the exact timing of our plans, or whether our plans have changed in that last, critical moment.

Is this possible?

And for the others posting here, I am a rank newbie here, and I do not mean to speak for all of us with any authority, only to express what I have seen. So I ask you all as well: is this something others here would like?

While I am not a mod. That seems very possible, but If most members started using that delay disclose their real identities in threads etc that going to create tons of heats- I could see national news heat eventually which is not something most people want-software developer.

I see no reason why anyone would need to disclose their IRL identity. If someone here wanted to leave their non-SS friends a link to their Echo, with their username to identify them, that's their own business. I know I wouldn't.

Just to clarify, I imagine this 99% as a farewell to the SS community, not a delayed-delivery note to their IRL family.

Perhaps it could even serve as a way for someone who has posted, "I will be using exit bag/N2, in <this> manner and setting," to give the rest of us some idea that their chosen method worked. Not a guarantee, of course, but perhaps.

And I would hope for considerable refinement of this idea before it became a working feature. I'm just tossing out the general idea.

It's already been requested and rejected

No, that's not what I have in mind. For delayed emails, there are options like LetterMeLater, Gmail has a feature, Thunderbird has an add-on, etc. Not flawless options, but they're there.

I'm thinking more of an internal post, a delayed thread exclusively for other SanSui (I flinch from using "SS") members, not an external email.

No prob! And thanks for tipping me that the idea might already have been addressed.
