Not minimal scarring but might give you an idea. I do it on my wrist, wait for it to heal (sometimes I don't), and repeat. That way, I only need to hide that area. dk if it makes sense
thank you for the advice, i used to do that and lately i have been more impulsive and could hardly wait until the scars heal(which ik is a bad thing but its gonna be like this for a while and fn better than dying so cant complain lol)
Here is a little sup up of what I've learned over the years although I do find it a little weird that you're asking for advice on this. However I'm not gonna judge. I'm a very systematic thinker and I try to not do anything impulsively so I guess I kind of get it even though I personally would never ask this.
Don't do it on your wrists. I've always (since I was 11) used my lower legs instead since I always knew that I wanted tattoos on my arms. If you do it right above your ankle you can wear high socks to cover it up. Always disinfect and heal (with ointments) properly afterwards. Put pressure on it (clean bandages) to keep the cuts together so they can heal better. Keep the general size to a small square/rectangle and keep the cuts close together. Only do it on the inner side of your legs, it's less visible that way. Try to stay in straight lines. That way while the older ones heal you can do the spots inbetween. For me it kinda looks like a more light skinned rectangle nowadays, as you barely see individual scars unless I accidentally slipped outside of my rectangle a little bit or you look at it really closely under a bright light.
Generally I wouldn't recommend cutting though. It has too many disadvantages and is very noticeable. You can also easily go too deep or have a really hard time if you're using a dull blade. As a kid I removed the blades from pencil sharpeners as I got older I just bought razor blades.
Instead of cutting I usually scratch my skin until it starts to bleed. It started as a tick during a panic attack that I can't get rid off to this day. The resulting wound looks similar to a burn wound (at least that's what doctors said) and it is way more satisfying than cutting. It also takes a lot of willpower. It's easy to just cut yourself, which is why people often regret it. It's not as easy to scratch yourself until you bleed though so it usually "scratches my itch" while being much less noticeable (and regrettable) since I often stop shortly before or after seeing/feeling some blood. It heals a little weird as the scars first turn dark first but after a while they disappear completly.
Edit: I also just remembered the following, since I told my husband he stops me from scratching myself which resulted in me hitting my head (against a wall or with my own hands or objects) during panic attacks. I would not recommend this. I gave myself a concussion at some point. Don't tell others about the scratching, it does look like a rather harmless tick most of the time for any bystanders and it's very effective in calming me down.
thank you for being open minded and your advice! i know how absurd it sound, i cut mostly on legs but i am impulsive and sometime just goes for hand and though i myself don't mind scars others are not so thrilled about them. i just don't really want anyone who i am close with knowing i self harm and if they find out i really cant live with myself knowing they know. also tried to quit multiple times now but i always end up having a panic attack and then cut deep which is worse. hence promised myself I'll only do it when i can at least justify what i am doing and have control over myself.
also sorry about the panic attacks and ticks they are just terrible i hope one day we both wont have to deal with them anymore
and thanks again for sharing you have pretty nice advice:)
Someone on here gave me a tip to use Vaseline after. It is supposed to make your scars heal better.
,,Petroleum jelly prevents the wound from drying out and forming a scab; wounds with scabs take longer to heal. This will also help prevent a scar from getting too large, deep or itchy.''
oooo did try that, scar didnt close and formed hypertrophic scar(just searched this i had no idea thats what they r called) maybe it was because the cut was deep but didnt work for me, thanks for the advice though.
