When you cut or copy anything it sits on your clipboard until something else is cut or copied. If you hit paste, it pastes whatever is on your clipboard. It's usually web addresses but could be anything really, especially if you've been editing a text doc.

You Mac people are lucky with your convenient shortcuts I have to use my little finger, which is silly. Actually, Opera has a floating copy command which is kinda cool.
