Where did the idea come from that suicide is a cowardly act? I would argue that it takes enormous courage and willpower to consider taking one's own life. This cruel world shames victims into believing they are wrong for wanting an escape, when the very environment we live in often contributes to their suffering. The planning, the contemplation, and the action itself all demonstrate bravery that should be respected, not ridiculed. Society's tendency to paint this issue with a broad brush makes me feel even more suicidal

Most people who say such things would never have the balls to CTB themselves. They just throw it around like a motto.

Where did the idea come from that suicide is a cowardly act?

I can name a few cases where you COULD consider suicide as "running away from your issues", at the minimum:

• [Massive life event] like divorce or career loss, that makes you want to kill yourself in part to escape having to deal your life being permanently changed for the worse.
• Killing yourself after you gambled everything away, before your family finds out
• Murder-suicide, killing somebody and then yourself purely to avoid consequences

Obligatory this isn't everyone who does CTB and definitely not on here.

If I had to guess, the reason "suicide is cowardly" is so widespread may be due to religion, in the same vein as "suicide is sinful", but don't quote me on that.
