Hello, I am a trans woman. I am out on bail for a crime I was accused of. I just found out that if I do get sent to prison, I will be sent to a male prison since I haven't had my surgery yet. My surgery will probably be scheduled around December but I wouldn't be able to have it if I go to prison. My lawyer confirmed this with me and I'm very wanting to ctb right now. It makes me furious. At least I have another good reason to ctb.

This is honestly disgusting. Trans people in general are facing historic levels of persecution and stigmatization, especially where I live in the US. It honestly seems like the cruelty of this policy is the point of it all.
Is your lawyer at least trying to advocate for you and your rights?
He's doing his best. The primary goal is to keep me out of prison in the first place. If I do face prison, in my suicide note I will write that this is the reason why. I would rather die than being sent to a male prison and not being allowed surgery. I hope that this is a valid enough reason for me to ctb.Last edited:

Any reason is valid for wanting to ctb as we were forced into this. Its not your fault that you got birthed into a body you are dysphoric about. I would 100% want to die too if I was sent to a male prison.

I'm incredibly sorry about your situation. I really hope you do not get sent to prison. This society we live in is really disgusting.
As a trans woman I support you no matter what you do. Just don't stick around out of some sense of obligation or strength, those two are probably the biggest justifiers of the most serious self-harm.

If there ever was a justified reason to CTB it is your reason. You are facing assault, rape, and the loss of your freedom. You will be branded for life. It will affect your net worth and the ability to get your surgery. If I were you I would make surgery your priority. I would chip in. Ask everyone you know. Use social media. Stress the urgency.

Just in case you are sent to prison and are still alive, try to verify they have a separate section for people that would not mix as well with the general population.
They really cannot just toss you in without some consideration. (I hope you are not in Texas)
I don't believe there are any valid or invalid reasons. It is up to each individual to decide. I'm sorry you're in this position, I hope you stay out of jail.
