It wasn't until the 1930s that vampires were starting to be seen as seductive or rich; before that, they were seen as animalistic and feral creatures in human skin, with an innately evil nature.
Dracula himself was depicted as evil, but people picked up on the erotic undertones of a 'refined aristocrat' archetype sneaking up on sleeping women at night to drink their blood and convert them to being his thralls. Which stirred something in a surprising amount of women, apparently...
