It seems like SaS wants to step back from here, or, is contemplating a darker ending @amor.dor

well, Romania, Dracula...
Actually, I've read and studied about the cultural myth of vampires quite a lot, so my knowledge on them is vast. Dracula is Bulgarian. He only escapes to Transylvania after being discovered by vampire hunters. On top of that, he was conceived by an Irish author...

That's what a vampire would say to avoid being discovered as one.

I thought Dracula was a Hungarian that escaped. Might be different across regions.

Another way to be a vampire, in Balkan lore, is to be a Turk.

One of the most interesting vampire fun facts is this:
During the Vampire Scare in 18th century Eastern/Southeastern Europe (which was mass hysteria from a collection of unrelated events that people strung together), people started to blame individuals suffering from a disease called porphyria as being vampires. Porphyria causes symptoms such as extremely pale and heat-sensitive skin (to the point of getting horrific blisters from sunlight), a neurological aversion to sulfuric scents (which includes garlic, a commonly cultivated regional crop at that time) and harsh photosensitivity. It also caused the patient's gums to recede heavily, which resulted in the appearance of fang-like teeth, and their mouth and lips would bleed heavily as a result.

I thought Dracula was a Hungarian that escaped. Might be different across regions.
You're right; thank you for correcting me. I confused the cultural origin point of conventional vampires (Bulgaria) with Dracula's nationality. Been a few years since I read up on this...
I do not live in Transylvania, I live in a different region of the country.
Also, would it not be unpleasant for you for us to be stuck as immortals together? Killing ourselves wouldn't make us die. Not that I am a vampire, of course...

Yeah, yeah sure. Now count this
Good thing it's in a bowl, and not spilled into a pile. Plus, I wouldn't even be a Chinese strain of vampire, so that doesn't work.
It doesn't necessarily have to be rice, either...

Vampire hunters of the 18th century, puzzled and pressed by the population to explain why no vampires had been found yet, explained that in their studies they had discovered a new kind of vampire: the dhampir.
A dhampir is the result of what happens when a human reproduces with a vampire. It's just an undead human with all of the drawbacks of vampirism and absolutely none of the benefits.
So, for a few decades, they caught dhampirs. The dhampirs in question were just terminally ill and disabled people, for the most part. The hunters made good money, though.
