yeah, I'd agree with that~ Altho, we've always said the cycle seems to repeat every 3 months instead~ xD it's noticeable that more users become more active a week or 2 after joining, likely because they join for the methods and then, wish to interact with the community~ :)
I mean, I'm more interested in the peaks in posting activity on it personally~ It's not all linear, and there's a bunch of peaks and valleys~ I wonder why~ I wish they extended it to the present, so we can see the impact of a certain YT video more clearly but oh well~

yeah the dataset is from the start of the site till the month before i joined so it is entirely possible the dynamics have changed. maybe some day they'll do another; if i had the software i would do it just because its interesting as fuck to me then publish it here..

i bet shore is typing up an informative reply but my shitty version is after the NYT did the first exposé on this site, there was a brief ban on method discussion given the inundation of external eyes on the place.
soon after this the admin stopped caring ig lol

I've never really written and researched too much about it before beyond just what I heard from around the time I joined but basically, it occurred on December 28th, 2021 to January 2022 due to pressure from all the bad press from the New York Times~ essentially, for the duration of that time, the admins banned all discussion of methods~ obviously, a lot of people were upset over this with some saying that there's no point to the site otherwise (obviously untrue), but they felt it was necessary to keep the site running at the time~
Thankfully, they still left method threads available as temporarily locked archives at the time as a locked archive [lame for essentially banning necro'ing~ >:(] but just forced there to be a new forum~ :)
Then, after about 5 or so days, they basically created a new private sewer slide discussion (not the current one) where methods could be discussed~ then, after about another 2 weeks on January 15th, 2022, they reversed everything and combined all the forums together again~ :)
