I apologize, he never did stand up AFAIK. He started as a disc jockey in small markets and gradually became zanier and zanier until he became the first big shock jock on WNBC in NYC. His movie, "Private Parts" was really pretty good.
We used to joke that if his movie ever came up as a double feature in the theater with Saving Private Ryan, the whole thing should be called "Shaving Private Ryan's Private Parts".
