Since my recent attempt failed, i've been kinda lost. Things have only gotten worse. Now, the "night night" method is the only method really accessible to me.

the problem is this is the only ratchet i have, and it has hooks on it. it also has the buckle that the ratchet should ideally have. The hooks can be disconnected from eachother but not removed from the straps.

Is there still a way to make this ratchet work? i don't have a lot of money for another one.

To give you some insight, I attempted to ctb with a much slimmer ratchet and failed and woke up,
It looks doable, maybe if you fold it a little bit

And what attempt exactly have you failed?

btw i tried the "night night" method myself and couldn't get it to work.
I think the main reason is that the pressure doesn't apply quickly enough which makes it ineffective for me at least

adding my two cents, suffocation seems like a pretty painful/uncomfortable way to go. saw a video of a streamer that ctb with a rachet and he struggled for several minutes before losing conscioussness. hope you find peace in whatever you do <3

if you are talking about someone called "ub3r" i think he lost consciousness fairly quickly so when it seemed like he was struggling to breath it was just his survival instinct im pretty sure he was already passed out

This is not suffocation. If done correctly, this cuts off the blood supply via the carotid arteries, and you pass out very quickly similar to partial hanging.

It's not *supposed to be suffocation, however if the carotids are not properly occluded, you will suffocate.

As someone above pointed out, night night and partial are difficult to get right because if you read the hanging mega thread, the people who were successful in starting to lose consciousness pretty fast all noticed they had to really sit in to it, or relax and apply all of their weight quickly, not slowly or little by little.

I wanted to do partial, but became convinced that there are too many ways to fail. Even if you manage to find the sweet spot and pass out quickly, involuntary movements while you are unconscious could shift the pressure points and restore blood flow to the brain. Scientists have also observed that people will extend their arms and legs while unconscious during a hanging. You then wake up like so many people have reported.

theres so many factors even with some of the best methods. like if you need to swallow it can trigger SI. hope you can find a method that works for you

im pretty sure he was already passed out
def possible that i was misinterpreting agonal breathing
similar to partial hanging.
his head was an entirely different shade of purple, which is not supposed to happen in a properly executed hanging (at least from what i've read/seen), hence why i assume at least some suffocation was experienced
if the carotids are not properly occluded, you will suffocate
this is what i think happened, i'm sure the carotids were affected but due to the overall generally applied pressure to the neck, i assume some occulusion of the windpipe also occured

The hooks look uncomfortable and I think they could interfere with the positioning of whatever you're using to block the arteries (bean bags, rolled socks, whatever). I'd cut off the shorter strap and toss it. Cut the hook off the longer strap and sew or tie it onto the ratchet.

so if i get what you're saying, i should cut off both hooks and sew the buckle part onto the longer strap?

That's right. I bought the recommended ratchet a while ago. It has one long strap - one end is sewn onto the ratchet, the other end is free. BTW, use a sturdy thread if you can and definitely use the "box with a X" stitching pattern, it's solid. Add more stitches if you're uncertain of your needle work or your thread.

do you think it would be a good idea to cut off some of the strap? as it is the ratchet is very long and im not sure if that will be an obstacle

I did. The strap was ridiculously long. But I'd do the sewing before cutting off any extra. In case you hate your work and want to start over, you can cut off your old work and still have plenty of length. The shorter strap does make it slightly more pleasant to practice. Just remember that you're going to loop the free end through the ratchet before putting it over your head, so you'll need extra length for that. Give yourself a foot or two more than you think you'll need.
