I had this strange thought; many of us have physical problems that push us towards thinking about suicide. Others don't have physical triggers and are that way because of experiences or certain observations. What if everyone could have those thoughts and they just haven't had the right trigger yet?

That would mean they're just like us but haven't realized it.

Like I said, just a strange thought..

Y should someone who has a "good life" (this is certainly subjective but includes good health) develop suicidal thoughts? Why would they wanna die? It's against how we are naturally coded. In my case, I became suicidal when things started to go downhill. I never thought about killing myself before that.

As long as there's no trigger people don't become suicidal.

I don't think so. People can be latently everything and latently nothing. It's like saying everyone latently has cancer.
I wasn't suicidal for most of my life. If someone had asked me a little while ago if I wanted to live forever, I would have said yes!

I don't think there's a like us/like them - we're just all humans. A bunch of biological things going through a complex system in our own way. When things get/are bad (physically, circumstantially, psychologically, emotionally), at a certain point it just becomes unbearable and people like us here in this forum may wish to end it. People can be suicidal for a variety of reasons, become suicidal, not be suicidal anymore.

I don't think "suicidal" is a type. Suicidal ideation is one of the many possible reactions in the human condition (and possibly that of other life forms).

It's an interesting idea. I'm just not sure. Where does the potential for suicidal thoughts and actions come from? If it's all circumstancial then- anyone could develop ideation given the right awful circumstances. But- some people in near identical circumstances may react differently. Why? Maybe it's partly upbringing- so- circumstances again. Mainly part of it is our genes though. Whether we have natural tendencies towards optimism or pessimism maybe. Even weaknesses towards things like depression.

It's like that whole- is everyone capable of killing? I'm not sure. I think some people are certainly more predisposed to either definitely through a mixture of genetics, upbringing and life experience.

Interestingly, a friend of mine once had their medication changed. This person was literally a dynamo. One of the most positive people I knew. She openly admitted to me that- prior to that change in medication and the resulting depression it plummeted her in to, she truthfully didn't have an awful lot of time for people struggling with mental illness. Not that she was ever horrible that I saw but I suppose deep down, I don't think she believed in how bad it could be. After that though, she really sympathised. So- who knows? Maybe it can affect anyone.

I don't think that's true. It goes against our natural instinct to kill ourselves. That's why it's so hard to do it. Anyone could become suicidal in the right circumstances, but most people aren't suicidal. Even if a group of people who had very similar circumstances, some people would become suicidal, but others wouldn't.

I'm not really sure if every one of us is suicidal... But I am pretty sure, as well as with other traits, it mainly has to do with genetics + upringing.
I objectively never had a difficult or a bad life. I have a roof, clothes, food, entertainment, loving parents. The only problem I've had is difficulty socializing and loneliness. But even so, I've been suicidal since young age. I don't have anyone with depression in my family (that I know of) but I still blame genetics for the most part.
