jacketed hollow point is the best bullet for a handgun

Best handgun is the .460 magnum.

the video shows this gun destroys anything

Shows gun and ammo:

All of these videos are shots from far away. Shooting from point blank would it be less catastrophic because there is less time for the bullet to explode and "expand"?

expanding bullets like hunting or hollow point bullets start expanding when they impact something that is not air. they don't start expanding in the air. but yes the bullet needs to start expanding instantly on impact . the faster the velocity the faster the bullet will expand and expend the energy into the head and brain .

imo it's very difficult for a contact shot not to be fatal if the aim is good and don't flinch before shot.

this shows hollow point high velocity better :

this video shows even with a small handgun and fmj the damage a contact shot does compared to 15 feet away

these are fmj . full metal jacket bullets. but a holllow point is much better because it expands and causes more damage.

a shotgun contact shot explodes the whole head

A .38 revolver has about as much punch as a 9mm pistol, which should be enough to get the job done, as long as you shoot yourself via the correct locations, i.e. into the roof of the mouth or from the side of the head behind the ear. Absolutely do not shoot yourself from under the chin or into the temple, those are the two most common mistakes that cause failures.

As for being a first-time gun buyer, don't sweat it. The gun store staff aren't going to ask you any questions, it's not their job to save suicidal people, it's their job to sell guns. That it's scheduled for pickup already tells them that you've made up your mind that this is the gun you want and they're not going to try to sell you anything else.
Hi, I've seen enough failed shotgun vids to know not to do under the chin, but was surprised to hear about the temple. Is temple really that risky?

Regarding the side of the head behind the ear, should this be directly behind the ear, or up and behind, below and behind? Whats the rationale? Thanks in advance.
