Concerns that SN will not work due expiration

I've ordered and received 99.99% Pure SN (said "Lab grade") on March 30. I did open it up to make sure the color and everything is good. It was inside small 250 mg plastic jar and plastic jar was sealed in vacuum zip bag. After I checked I packed everything back. I plan to use it in very near future but I'm scared that because I have opened it
for the first time that air might have got inside and that SN is completely spoiled since it's been like 7 months since I opened. Do you think it will work?

I think this has been the only time I've ever been able to read anything in cyrillic, besides cyka bylat. Those are some nice metos.

I wish I knew the answer, 7 months is not a long time but exposure to air isn't good. A google search for me says that 1-3 months if exposed "repeatedly" to air it will oxidise it into sodium nitrate. I don't know what happens if you expose it once, but because its no longer vacuum sealed that's not good. One exposure may just have brought the purity down, but as long as its still 95%+ you might be ok.

Someone may come along and say its alright, esp. at 99.99% lab purity, but if I were you, I would obtain a second batch from the same source if possible and don't open it until you want to use it. Keep it in the vacuum sealed bag inside the plastic bottle. If you unzip the bag, then place a removeable seal around the cap of the bottle where there are any gaps but don't open it.

It just makes more sense to me to get a second batch than risk ending up taking sodium nitrate instead of nitrite.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer. I just wanted to let you know I've been wondering how you were doing. I hope you have had some okay (or GOOD!) time in between when you were first here and now. I wish you had a way to get out of the country.

From what I've researched in the past, SN has a shelf life of roughly 3 years or so if it's been opened, but if it isn't constantly exposed to air it effectively doesn't expire. I wouldn't be too concerned personally about that amount of time, but if you're concerned about whether or not it will work, then you can always try the blood test; it's pretty much the best way to test if it'll work. If it turns the blood into a dark brown color, then it's still good to go. If the blood stays red, then I would definitely recommend replacing it.
