Combination of alcohol and Xanax for a drowning attempt

Hey guys,

Im just wondering will taking 15mg of Xanax alongside alcohol just before I jump into a river sedate me enough that i won't feel any pain or fear as I'm drowning. Im very concerned that this combination won't bring about the very high level of sedation that I will need in order to not feel any pain or fear during my drowning attempt. It's my first time taking a benzodiazapine as well as my first time consuming alcohol so presumably my tolerance for alcohol and benzodiazapines will be extremely low which should work in my favor.

Which Country are you from? I was literally thinking of doing this, but gave up on that. What if somehow I survive? Someone rescues me? Too much danger of being saved. Inert gases are best for USA. Helium balloon cylinder are easyli available for on Amazon?

I'm living in the Republic of Ireland in Europe.

I've minimized the risk of someone rescuing me by jumping in at 4 am which (according to Chat GPT) is the most quietest time in the area where the bridge is located that I'm going to be jumping off. So my logic is that because I am unlikely to be rescued, it is therefore highly likely (although not certain unfortunately) that I will not survive.

I actually tried the helium method that you referred to in your reply but the equipment that I bought was like way too complicated to use so I just gave up without even attempting to suffocate myself with the helium. I was very disappointed by this because I really wanted to ctb this way as I heard it was the most painless way to do it

For starters, Xanax doesn't kick in in 30 seconds. So the idea of popping a pill and taking a swig just before trying to kill yourself, no it won't help.

Yes Xanax can be used for SI. Honestly alcohol is neutral, maybe combined with Xanax it would be helpful.

You don't think the Xanax will help because…. You've never taken it before lol. Before using benzos for SI, you should test your reaction to them so you can use them properly. You'll answer your own question by taking it at home and seeing how it feels.

You've also never consumed alcohol? Why do you want to use alcohol to ctb if you don't know how it will affect you? Getting the timing right of both will be difficult for someone with no knowledge or tolerance.

I don't recommend adding alcohol to this mix. Benzos help with SI a ton. Just take one and you'll see what I mean.

Can you trust Chat GPT? Even if it is telling truth, there will always be a chance of someone accidentally being present at the same time you decide to carry out this. Living a vegetative state after survival is worse than not attempting at all.

Thanks so much for your reply. Actually, this is exactly the type of valuable information I was hoping to receive.

I was thinking taking the 15 mg Xanax around 90 minutes (because I researched that Xanax is most sedating after 90 minutes) before jumping in aswell as taking the alcohol 60 minutes before (because I also researched that the effects from alcohol are most prominent after 60 minutes). I should've included this information initially and I apologize for not doing so.

To answer your question regarding why I want to use alcohol as sedation is because I researched that combining alcohol alongside benzodiazapines increases the sedation because both depress the central nervous system. This is why doctors always advise against taking alcohol with benzodiazapines.

I appreciate your advice of taking a benzo tablet to see how I react but the problem is that I don't want to reduce my supply of Xanax (as it is unlikely I will be able to obtain any more due to my personal circumstances) and also I'm not sure if taking one tablet (1mg) will reliably predict how I will respond to it at a much higher dose (15mg).

Also, when toxicology reports are completed on people that die by drowning, there is a high percentage of those that have had substances in their system at the time of death. So I just thought that it would be best for me to have substances in my body for the attempt to maximize my chances of dying. However, I acknowledge that my conclusion surrounding this may have been inaccurate.

If I should make any changes to my plan please let me know as I need to ctb very soon before things get worse.

Yes, I totally agree with your point.

I suppose you can minimize the risk of being rescued but you can't eliminate this risk altogether.

If I'm honest, the unpredictability is a major source of anxiety for me. This is actually the exact reason why I haven't attempted to drown myself yet. Also, the fear around being left in a permanently vegetative state is also what's stopped me from attempting so far.
