Yes, carbon monoxide is very toxixc, and and can kill people quickly. Death is painless. The danger is that CO damages your brain, and if you don;t get enough of it to die you could wake up severely disabled, or even a vegetable. As with most methods for ctb, careful planning is important.

From what I've read in many cases it is NOT painless. Which is why more people don't do it. I thought about charcoal but have settled on SN.

It IS painless IF you get the level of CO to a concentration of at least 10000 PPM (parts per million) in whatever enclosure (tent, small room, etc.) you are using. At a level of 10000 PPM, or higher, unconsciousness comes first with a few breaths, and death follows afterwards in just a few minutes. CO is one of the MOST painless methods available if it is done correctly. It's even a faster method of CTB than N (Nembutal). It ranks very high on the "peacefulness" scale.
