Anyone had any experiences with these practices? I've had sciatica and a weird pain right at the very base of my spine for years, have gone to various doctors, specialists and therapists with little diagnosis or improvement. The only thing I've had diagnosed are an apparently incidental small lesion in the middle of my spine and osteoarthritis of the hip.
Recently I've started to see an "osteomyologist"; a man trained in chiropractic but who has since left the field to join the self regulatory body of osteomyology. This by itself seemed slightly off to me but the fact that he apparently had serious problems himself that were "fixed" by a combination of practices made his approach seem different and maybe worth a go…
I've been to three sessions so far and have come out feeling worse each time. The initial consultation was him asking questions and then talking over the answers. He proceeded to "work" on various parts of my spine that didn't even hurt until he jabbed his fingers into them. He'd crack a joint then press softer, making it seem that it wasn't as tender. He has had no effect on the places that hurt and has even caused pain in places that didn't hurt before.
He claims that "toxins" are released during these "adjustments", which is scientifically proven to be bullshit, it's just gas being released. When he asks if I feel something and I say no, he corrects me and says that I did? I want to give it a chance to work but yet don't feel any better after three sessions around a week apart. I'm kind of worried he's going to make (or is already making) things worse - when I tell him I have extra pain he doesn't seem to address it and the last visit was excruciating, leaving me more sore than ever!
I can't work out if I'm just pissed off at his cockiness or if he's a charlatan?
Should I tell him to bollocks and not book another one? I have a session booked next week and am thinking that if there is no improvement and I'm feeling worse after then I'm going to give up and dismiss him as a quack - I'm seriously in way more pain than I ever was before!
