The cops told me not to call the crisis line cause then they have to come see me. At which point I'll be formed. The hospitals now instead of even trying to help you, just give you a sheet with the proper way to kill yourself for next time you have a personal issue.

Also wondering about this. No mental health professional out there would condone suicide or we all wouldn't be in the position we're in.

I live in Canada too and I've never ever heard of this. And I have close family in the healthcare field.

Exactly. MAID is there but healthcare providers aren't allowed to bring it up, you have to ask for it on your own volition. Healthcare workers cannot advocate for suicide in the current system.

I'm a paramedic, I've literally been there when suicidal patients get discharged. I've seen tons of people go home without any treatment or being referred to anything, but no doctor has ever given a patient resources on how to kill themselves. That would be grounds for a huge lawsuit and someone losing their license.

How do you handle seeing all that trauma?

I think this type of stuff hits some people harder than others, and to be honest I feel like death and suffering doesn't hit me that hard. I think it takes a certain person to work in emergency medicine/emergency services. I honestly don't feel bothered by a lot of it, but what does bother me is seeing domestic abuse or anything with kids. The key is to just talk about it and don't let it well up in you, but some shit still sticks with you.

An example of that for me was being called out to an apartment in a low income area and seeing a toddler crawling around on the floor playing with empty beer cans while all the adults pay no attention. What fucks me up is that these kids will probsbly have no chance at a fair life because of the places they grow up in and how they get treated poorly, abused, and/or neglected.
