Venting Can't believe my vent art was put thru AI...

So I posted my art here for the first time ever and someone put one of my pictures through and ai and I've never felt more offended. HOW DARE YOU USE MY VENT ART, art that is personal TO ME through a fucking AI machine. I'm not impressed, I'm not happy, I'm offended and angry that you would desecrate my photo like that. I deleted the thread (I'm sure I deleted it, I'm not totally sure since I'm still new here.) If you're wondering what the image was it was of a sad seal I drew and they put it through and AI machine to make another seal hug the sad seal...I REFUSE TO POST ANY OF MY ARTWORK HERE AGAIN.

But goddamn now I really can't trust shit. Fuck people. This only further cements things for me that no one is shit.

this would probably make a great learning opportunity for them, idk, maybe they are just being malicious, but do you think maybe they're just ignorant/stupid and have no idea? especially old people who have no idea what ai is. i would be pissed too and wouldn't have the patience to explain, so i get ur anger. i hope someone else explains it to them so they know better next time, at least.

I don't know, I don't know how old they are but considering they can use it I would guess they are younger rather than older. I deleted the thread with such haste that I didn't get their name, I was just that pissed. I don't have the energy to explain, tbh I feel like it should be well known enough that AI generated images are highly frowned upon by everyone who isn't into generative AI- but that's just me. I hope they either get the memo or just fuck off to AI land.

Same has happened to me twice unfortunately, but I let them know I didn't like it! They were actually very understanding, deleted the AI image and apologised. I don't think these people do it out of bad intent or just aren't aware of the truth about the use of AI.

It's good to ask them not to, and explain why it's not a good thing. I know it's really upsetting but sometimes they genuinely didn't know.

Maybe this is worth putting forward as a forum suggestion? To have a ground rule that makes it crystal clear that by default you should assume you don't have the artist's permission to put their personal art through AI

That is so fucking disrespectful to you! Honestly I think it should be against the forum rules to put someones personal vent art through an image generator.
It's understandable if you don't wanna post your art online anymore, but may I suggest glazing/nightshading your art if you wanna continue? Makes it harder for AI to read what's in the image.

I do get the reaction and feelings... but... consider... most people here are using images for their avatars that they did not create themselves nor are images of themselves. Do you know that the person in the image of your avatar OR the person who created the image you use is OK with you using their creation as your avatar?

I think it's easy to get mad if someone takes your creation and sells it or passes it off as their own or makes money from it without your permission... but virtually everyone is using someone's art without explicit permission and often in a way not intended by the original creator and many times with altered images to boot. I think it's a little hard to get truly angry at someone for doing things you might be doing yourself.

And the person who did it... might not have thought anything of it... people take art all the time and alter it and post it to be funny or communicate a message or feeling... The shared memes people love to share are almost never shared by the people who created them in the first place or are depicted in them.

Just things to think about. When you post something online, assume it will get reposted by others and potentially altered as well along the way.
