Method Buying a gun?

So, I have a long medical record of mental health stretching back into my teens. I've been on several medicines. I'm definitely on the record as being unstable. Is it likely that my records will prevent me from buying a gun entirely? Or is there any possible way to still figure that out? I'm in the US, btw, if that wasn't obvious.

Also, sorry. I'm not in the best headspace right now, so I'm not sure if I'm being clear with my question. Sorry.

There is a possibility that you could be excluded. Research your specific state's laws on gun possession and ownership as it pertains to mental health. I would google something like:
{YOUR STATE HERE} mental health firearm prohibitors
Does {YOUR STATE HERE} prohibit me from buying firearms due to mental health?
process of buying a firearm in {YOUR STATE HERE}

I think it's far more straightforward than the previous reply suggests. It all comes down to one question: have you ever had a psych hold that was involuntary? If so, consider other methods. Have your psych holds or psych ward stays been voluntary? In that case, yes, check out your state's laws on how long that prohibits you from buying a gun. All depending, you may not have to wait at all.

the only thing that matters is if youve been in a psych ward (and how recently) and the state you're in. most likely if youve gotten committed in the last 5-10 years then you can't buy a gun.
