i've seen 2 cases of kids who have brain injuries so deep that they are only blinking vegetables with maybe some eye communication and while I feel deeply for their parents, it horrifies me that society thinks it's acceptable to keep someone alive in such a state. there should at least be euthanasia available to awake persons such that they can choose to end their suffering. but no. in the US, MAID is only available to the terminally ill, and only in some states

in both kids, the injury also seemed to happen basically overnight. i hope they're both on extremely strong drugs so at least their existence is mostly pain-free, or that their damage is so bad they can't feel pain.

god i wish i was a Canadian citizen bc I would probably be able to qualify for their MAID if my chronic illness doesn't get any better

life is a prison!!!!! i hate being in a mortal body!!!!!!!!

this also just emphasizes the importance of not being found during your attempt. there is no room for failure.

What qualifies for MAID in Canada?
What chronic illness do you have if you don't mind me asking?
I have severe crohns, fibromaylgia, arthritis cysts and fluid in multiple organs and ovary. Brain injuries from spinal meningitis, concussions, ptsd and meds.. the meds are what did me in.
I agree, what do they keep people with no quality of life alive.

meet all criteria:
  • have a serious illness, disease or disability
  • be in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed
  • experience unbearable physical or mental suffering from your illness, disease, disability or state of decline that cannot be relieved under conditions that you consider acceptable
i have long COVID/severe post-viral fatigue which tortures me at all times (more than just fatigue…). i think im on the cusp of eligibility, would probably qualify if i stay on the same level of misery for more than a year and have tried literally every treatment on earth. but who knows, could just be my wishful thinking

I dealt with major depression before my stroke and thought life was hard before then. Depression became so much worse after stroke

I hear voices, minor hallucinations, falling asleep multiple times during the day and staying awake during the night, sensations like bugs are crawling on my skin and my internal organs are moving, not eating for days.
I refuse to see doctors and do not believe in psychiatry but they would call it schizophrenia
glad i will not be here anymore

There's actually evidence that 'schizophrenia' is better off without antipsychotics and talk therapy can make some mental health disorders like OCD worse. Of course everyone is different but I personally believe psychiatry has hurt humanity more than helped.

It truly is horrific, I find it so terrifying how there is no limit as to how much one can be tortured in this dreadful, cruel existence, to me existence really is an abomination and I wish that more than anything I was never burdened with this torturous, dreadful existence I just always saw as a mistake.

To exist in this horrific anti-suicide world where suicide is treated as a crime despite all this endless suffering this existence causes is always a punishment to me, all I wish for is the peace of non-existence, only in non-existence will I be at peace.

no, both of them were ADEM:

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, or ADEM, is a rare neurological condition that often occurs after a viral or bacterial infection. It causes inflammation in your central nervous system. Common symptoms include a headache, confusion, weakness and numbness. It can happen to anyone but affects children more often than adults.

so they were just living healthy lives, got an infection, boom gone

Indeed, this is why I am terrified of failing an attempt and one of the biggest reasons why I haven't attempted yet

this is another example that can happen to any human or any sentient animal with a brain. but there are many more different things. it boggles my mind that no one talks about all the many horrible things that can happen . they are hidden but can be found with deep research on the internet . just any horrible thing that has happended to another human can probably happen to anyone car accident causing brain damage and or constant pain paralysis , meningitis, tape worm, cancer, kidney stones, kidnapp and torture, physical attacks, parasites, bacterial infetion, stroke , car or house fire burning all of skin off, shaking disease, just an organ going bad can cause constant extreme torture even the skin , many more horrors.

did they get brain injuries from trying to ctb or from something like an accident?
i remember reading about this medical condition known as "locked-in syndrome" where you're fully conscious but everyone thinks you're in a coma because you're completely paralyzed and can only barely move your eyelids.
it usually happens after a stroke or some brain injury
it's honestly very terrifying

I'm also in a similar situation. Failing an attempt and ending up in such a state is truly a fate worse than death. Anyone who willingly keeps a person in such a state I can't even fathom how they believe that such a state isn't torture.
