i am actually qualified to answer this as a fanfic writer myself. it's from the omegaverse, which originates from an outdated/incorrect study of wolves and a hierarchy. people thought there were "alphas" who lead the pack when in reality its just a pair of breeders (male/female) and the entire pack is a family/descendants of the breeders.
